Radar signature analysis of façade elements at Frankfurt Airport

August 2015 | Performance Analyses

In co-operation with our partner FCS - Flight Calibration Services GfL is now in uncharted waters in the field of impact studies on radar and ILS systems: For the approval of a building project in the vicinity of Frankfurt Airport a series of experimental runs will be performed at the National Metrology Institute of Germany (Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt, PTB) in Braunschweig. The radar signature of selected façade elements provided by the architect will be analysed regarding the material’s absorption abilities. The findings will allow a deeper insight into the absorption of electromagnetic waves, thus improving the precision of simulation runs for the impact study for the Approving Authorities and Deutsche Flugsicherung GmbH (DFS). Such specific experiments provide a novelty in the quality of verification. Specially developed sample grips will be used for this task. Results are expected until late autumn this year.
