Safety Performance Indicators (SPI) Monitor prototype test at Lufthansa Cargo successful

September 2011 | Software

Since October 2010 GfL, together with TU Dresden, has been developing Safety Performance Indicators (SPI) for Lufthansa Cargo AG as the heart of the Safety Management System (SMS) in the areas of flight operations, maintenance and ground operations. At the end of August 2011, the exciting phase of validating the developed parameters with live data from the company began. Sophisticated database concepts allow the visualization of highly sensitive flight operations data (FODA) in suitable aggregated form. After numerous calibration iterations, the developed SPIs have now been classified as leading and valid targets from the point of view of flight operations. Further SPIs are planned for implementation. Now the presentation of a so-called manager view as a highly aggregated status picture of safety in the company is the focus of the "fine-tuning". As of 1st January 2012, SPIs will be required to be fully binding by the legislator (First Implementing Ordinance to the Operating Regulations for Aviation Equipment, § 3 Accident Prevention and Flight Safety Programme (for OPS 1.035 and 1.037) on the basis of corresponding ICAO specifications (Annex 6, Part 1, Chapter 3.3.4 and ICAO Doc. 9859) as part of the introduction of Safety Management Systems (SMS) in aviation companies. GfL contributes its many years of experience in the implementation of security management systems (see our Airport SMS Software).
