Safety Performance Indicators (SPI) Monitor now operational at Lufthansa Cargo

November 2011 | Software

Since October 2010 GfL, together with the TU Dresden, Chair of Technology and Logistics of Air Transport, has developed Safety Performance Indicators (SPI) for Lufthansa Cargo AG as the heart of the Safety Management System (SMS) in the areas of flight operations, maintenance, ground operations and crew training. At the end of August 2011, the exciting phase of validating the developed parameters with live data from the company began. Sophisticated database concepts allow the visualization of highly sensitive flight operations data (FODA) in suitable aggregated form. After numerous iterations for calibration, the more than 16 SPIs developed have now been formally accepted by FRA F/OQ, both by flight operations management and by LCAG's technical department. The tool has dedicated display options both highly aggregated for the management level "Manager View" and detailed for the responsible departments "Detail View". As of January 1, 2012, SPIs will be required to be fully binding by the legislator within the framework of the introduction of Safety Management Systems (SMS) in aviation companies (First Implementation Ordinance to the Operating Regulations for Aviation Equipment, § 3 Accident Prevention and Flight Safety Program (for OPS 1.035 and 1.037) on the basis of corresponding ICAO specifications (Annex 6, Part 1, Chapter 3.3.4 and ICAO Doc. 9859). GfL contributes its many years of experience in the implementation of security management systems (see our Airport SMS Software).
