Safety assessment for the use of vehicle flashing lights on flight operation areas

February 2020 | Safety Assessment

After photometric measurement of selected flashing lights with ECE approval in a lighting laboratory (see News) it was found that especially the effective luminous intensities do not fully meet the EASA requirements according to CS ADR-DSN.Q.850 Lighting of other objects. Therefore GfL has now been commissioned by the airport association ADV to subject this issue to a detailed safety assessment in a further step. In addition to the application of specific operating procedures (e.g. follow-me operation) and the associated boundary conditions (including geometric relationships, visibility, etc.), the investigation of aspects of optical perception will also be carried out.
