Implementation of a compliance check of organ transport flights

October 2020 | Performance Analyses

The German Organ Transplantation Foundation (DSO) organizes and coordinates the entire process of organ donation and transplantation in Germany. A decisive component of this process is the guarantee of smooth transport chains between donor hospitals and transplant centers of the recipients, either by land or – provided that general as well as specific recipient requirements are met – by air. Every year, more than 1,000 organ transports are carried out on behalf of DSO using aircraft of contractually bound airlines.

The aim of the study carried out by GfL is to evaluate the anonymized data of the organ transport flights recorded by DSO and airlines. The data records are evaluated with regard to donor and recipient location, organ type, aircraft, etc. and checked for compliance with the Guidelines for Organ Transplantation according to § 16 TPG.
