GfL starts alliance participation in RUBIN project

January 2022 | Airport Planning

GfL has been involved in the joint project RUBIN (Regional Entrepreneurial Alliances for Innovation) since the beginning of the year. The aim of GfL's sub-project in cooperation with various partners is a feasibility study on the use of carbon fiber reinforced concrete on airport runways, aprons and taxiways. The material properties, in particular the heating function, offer advantages in terms of safety and capacity that need to be analyzed. The primary requirement is to ensure safety during flight operations.

In addition to the development of a requirements profile for feasibility and implementation in the airport sector, the project will also include a safety concept for electrical systems and operating materials when using carbon fiber reinforced concrete at airports, as well as the development of a concept for certification in the airport sector in accordance with EASA. A prototype implementation in the airport sector is also part of the project.

The project duration is 3 years.
