Compliance assessment on the aerial transport of donated organs handed over to DSO

November 2021 | Performance Analyses

GfL was contracted by the German Organ Procurement Organization DSO, responsible for coordinating organ donations in Germany, to assess the compliance of historical aerial transports of donated organs with the guidelines of the German Medical Association (Bundesärztekammer), as we reported here. This assessment has now been completed and handed over to the contractor.

Using an anonymized data set, alternative ground transportation options were analyzed for each organ cargo flight and compared to the maximum allowable itinerary time of the specific organ. By additionally considering flight performance characteristics of the respective aircraft type, potential gains in time for each flight in comparison with an alternative ground transportation medium were determined.
