GfL prepares Risk Analysis for External Risks at EuroAirport Basel
February 2026 | Safety Assessment
On behalf of the cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft, GfL conducted a
comprehensive risk analysis of external risks associated with air traffic at EuroAirport Basel (EAP). The goal of the analysis was to assess the risks to the local population outside the airport grounds in a transparent and scientifically sound manner.
The study is based on current international standards and takes into account both the applicable European safety regulations and the specific conditions at EuroAirport Basel. The analysis examined individual and group risks and their geographic distribution across two historical/current scenarios and two forecast scenarios.
The results of the analysis show that there are no elevated risks associated with air traffic at EuroAirport Basel. The values determined fall within the range of internationally accepted safety standards and confirm the high level of safety of flight operations at the site.
The GfL’s report and the calculation methodology were
reviewed and validated by the Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA/BAZL), which further underscores the quality and reliability of the analysis.
With this risk analysis, GfL makes an important contribution to providing an objective basis for decision-making by authorities and policymakers, as well as to transparent communication with the public.
